Our History

In 1940 fire burned the First Congregational Church of Westminster's meeting house to the ground.  In an effort to raise money, the entire congregation joined together and with help from the town of Westminster, they closed off surrounding streets and set up booths to sell  crafts and harvested goods. There was music and a baked bean supper. They called it the Yankee Street Fair and a tradition was begun!

Much like the church and its congregation, the Yankee Street Fair has evolved with time, but has held true to its core values. Always held on the last Saturday in August, it has become a welcomed annual community festival with a goal of coming together to celebrate the end of Summer while raising funds for the 1st Congregational Church and the people of Westminster.

Each year a different town charity is selected as the direct recipient of 10% of all proceeds from the fair.  Past recipients have included the Westminster Senior Center in 2014 and Westminster Elementary School in 2013.  In 2015, Westminster Fire Department was presented with portable GPS units for use in their fire trucks.  The beneficiary for 2016 was the Westminster Food Pantry.
